Concrete Connect have plenty of reasons to celebrate, as they begin to make plans for hosting their tenth birthday, and announce the appointment of a General Manager.
Since it’s beginnings by George Roberts in 2004, Concrete Connect has evolved from a home office in his garage focusing on grouting and tilt panel injection, to operating from a fully equipped commercial workshop, with a fast growing labour force in excess of 60, 4 divisions covering concrete repairs, injection, sealant & grouting and industrial coatings, and a second branch in Sydney. As a result of this significant growth, Concrete Connect is pleased to announce that local Cantabrian, Stephen Matheson, has been appointed to the role of General Manager, with the purpose of driving the growth and performance of the company, whilst continuing to deliver the brand promise to clients, of “Best People and Best Results”. This is an exciting move to consolidate the next phase of Concrete Connect’s strategic plan within the wider New Zealand market. Although Stephen comes from outside the construction Industry, his General Management roles in the tourism and transport sectors, formal business and management qualifications, and strong systems orientated approach will bring a fresh perspective and introduce the corporate structure needed to drive the company’s growth path as Concrete Connect heads into the next ten years.
Although Stephen readily admits he is presently challenged by the technical jargon and “wouldn’t know a widget from a bore packer “ he knows that his strong leadership skills coupled with the great people already in the Concrete Connect team, will help to move the company towards its absolute potential. As a family man he believes in “working to live…not living to work”, and that irrespective of the size or financial status of the company, its true success will be found in remembering that people are always at the core, and that client satisfaction and staff growth will be key components of that success.
The appointment of a General Manager also gives George the freedom to focus on his passion for business development. He will still be actively involved in the business, but will focus on supporting the Sydney branch, developing the 30 year vision to expand Concrete Connect throughout Australasia, and driving the company mission. George’s experiences throughout his building career led to his personal desire to inspire change. His mission? “Within 30 years I would like to see Concrete Connect become the company most known for changing the poor values of the Construction Industry…” He admits this may seem like a big mission, but says... “By staying true to our company’s core values, and instilling these through our entire company, we will have an impact on the entire industry and show others that anything is possible.”
So as Concrete Connect makes plans to celebrate their first ten years with all those who have been involved with their success, they also look forward to the next ten years of being challenged and growing, as Canterbury also grows in strength alongside them.
